Committees

WLUGSA committees oversee, plan, and carry out tasks related to specific areas of WLUGSA operations. All members are eligible to sit on any of our various committees. Please contact the Committee Chair or Executive Liaison for more information.

You can find monthly committee reports in the Board Meeting Documents section.

If you are interested in chairing or sitting on a committee, please contact the appropriate Executive Liaison.

The Policy Committee regularly reviews and updates existing policies of the Association, develops new policies, and ensures that motions of the Board are reflected in policy. Events & Orientation Committee

Chair:
Executive Liaison: VP: Student Life

Graduate school is all about your academic life, but in order to succeed in it, you need a break now and again from the day-to-day grind of academia.  The Events & Orientation Committee is dedicated to providing a scheduled social balance for all graduate students, in order to give them the fullest experience of graduate school possible. Last year, the Events Committee organized a number of successful events including a December Holiday party, the "Get Away To the Grad Lounge" Spring Break send-off, and the always popular free monthly breakfasts.

Grad Lounge Committee

Chair:
Executive Liaison: VP: Finance

The Grad Lounge Committee is to work with the Grad Lounge Manager, Ellen Menage (also the GSA Office and Services Administrator), in coordinating the activities of the Grad Lounge space.  This includes drafting a yearly budget and recommending and reviewing new initiatives for the space.  The committee is also to develop policies to ensure that the long-term business plan of the Grad Lounge is adhered to.

Finance Committee

Chair: (vacant)
Executive Liaison: VP: Finance

The Finance Committee is responsible for assisting in developing a yearly budget for the GSA, monitoring the spending of the GSA, and considering amendments to the existing budget.  The committee is also responsible for organizing data on student support, and for organizing the financial priorities of the GSA.  The Finance Committee recommends the GSA fee charged to students, as well as overseeing the distribution of GSA awards and bursaries.

Priorities and Planning Committee

Chair: (vacant)
Executive Liaison: President

The Priorities and Planning Committee assists the President in the development of long-term vision and strategic planning for the Association. Last year, the Priorities & Planning Committee focused their efforts on creating a new governance model for the GSA that increases communication with stakeholders while maximizing efficiency in decision-making. As a result, the Board of Directors was restructured and a new body of faculty Councils were created to better address the diversity of issues and challenges faced by our membership.
